Part of the Design and Transformation exhibition is presented in Algiers

Part of the exhibition Design and Transformation. Stories of Czech Design 1990-2020, which the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague together with the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Office Government, and other partners, is presenting in Algiers.

The exhibition presents contemporary Czech design in a historical and political context, and was first presented in Brussels, Belgium, as part of the second Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union (from September 6th, 2022 to 8 January, 8th 2023).

Presented at the École supérieure des Beaux-arts d'Alger are photographs by Vojtěch Veškrna and a short snapshot of different companies that were part of the Czech Landscape exhibition.

Original photographs inspired by the theme of transformation give an unconventional and playful insight into production facilities and present the products of fourteen Czech companies in a novel way. The selection includes both large and traditional manufacturers as well as relatively young, established projects. The selection of companies illustrates contemporary Czech design, its history, and political context. The influence of time and society on the final form of products is evident, as is the role of design in the lives of people and the environment in which they live. Examples include the Textile Mountain project dealing with upcycled materials, Unique Client, which is an example of inclusive design, or the design for teaching, research, and experimentation represented by Prusa Research.

The exhibition was opened on-site by Prof. Jindřich Vybíral the Rector of UMPRUM together with the Czech Ambassador Lenka Pokorná.
