You are cordially invited to a duo lecture of Danish artist Sofie Thorsen and Croatian artist David Maljkovic. Both artists will present their practices followed by a conjoint Q&A.
The lecture is organized as part of a collaboration between UMPRUM and m3 Festival and will be held in English language.

Born in 1971 in Denmark, Sofie Thorsen lives and works in Vienna. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, she has shown her work internationally in numerous group and solo exhibitions, for example at Kunsthaus Graz and Kunsthaus Baselland in 2012 and at Bank Austria Kunstforum in 2013. She lives and works in Vienna. She held a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 2005 to 2009. In her installations, films and works on paper, Sofie Thorsen deals with questions of space and architecture in urban space as well as the exhibition space itself. Where the starting point of her work is mostly research based or documentary, the images and materials that surface during research are reworked and developed into abstract objects and images that constitute the final work.
Sofie Thorsen (born 1971, Denmark) was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts, Budapest the Royal Academy, Copenhagen, and the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. She lives and works in Vienna, Austria, where she teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts. She has exhibited internationally in group shows and solo exhibitions, the latest at Kunsthaus Graz and Kunsthaus Baselland in 2012 and at Bank Austria Kunstforum in 2013.
David Maljkovic was born in 1973 in Rijeka, Croatia, and lives and works in Zagreb. His one-person exhibition A Retrospective by Appointment was staged across four separate venues—the Nova Gallery; HDD (The Croatian Designers Association); the artist’s studio; and Cinema Tuskanac, Croatian Film Association—in Zagreb in 2015. It was later revisited in altered form as Again and Again at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana, in 2016. A major survey exhibition, Sources in the Air, was organized by Van Abbemuseum, Eidhoven, Netherlands, in 2012, traveling to BALTIC Center for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, United Kingdom, and GAMeC, Bergamo, Italy in 2013. He has had additional one- or two-person exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Switzerland; CAC Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius, Lithuania; Kunsthalle Basel (with Latifa Echakhch); SculptureCenter, New York (with Lucy Skaer); Secession, Vienna; Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Kunstverein Hamburg; and MoMA PS1, New York. He participated in the 11th Gwangju Biennale, the 56th Venice Biennale, and the 29th São Paolo Biennial.
