The Cultural Centre of the city of Nymburk, candlestick prototypes for the Czech company of Lugi, and the creation of comic books on the theme of Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles": UMPRUM invites you to Artsemestr Summer 2015.
The Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague invites the public into its studios for the regular presentation of semestral and undergraduate work entitled Artsemestr. This year is exceptional for the Academy and its students, as the institution is celebrating the 130th anniversary of its founding. The main part of the celebrations will take place in autumn. However, visitors already have the opportunity of examining what directions contemporary Design, Graphics and Architecture are following in 2015.
In the Architecture I Studio, students designed projects for the Cultural and Social Centre of the city of Nymburk. Their colleagues in the Architecture IV Studio worked on studies of the Concert Hall interior.
Folklore and Folk Art became the springboard for the realisation of the clothing collections by Liběna Rochová's students in the Fashion and Footwear Design Studio. Under the title of "Modfolk", the studio presents folk costumes and folk craft as the precursors of modernity. The cycle of approximately 30 models is based on sheer simplicity, practical solutions and constructive principles contained in traditional folk dress, architecture and crafts.
The Furniture and Interior Design Studio has been working on several tasks. Students were asked to create a complementary object to a solid wooden kitchen for the Czech company of Lugi. Together with the Polstrin Company, Czech manufacturers of upholstered furniture, students worked on the creation of a tabouret In addition, after a one-day visit to the Bomma Glassworks, they came up with the design of a small conference table.
Ceramics Studio students acquired exotic birds this semester. Students bred a subspecies of Zebra Finches and subsequently modelled them. Their ceramic models of these small birds are the outcome.
The theme of interpersonal relations resonated this semester in the Textile Design Studio. Students were asked to choose a specific pair from the world of art and capture their mutual energy. Thus originated works inspired by Adriena Šimotová and Jaromír John, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Frida Kahlo and Diego Ribera, and even Simon and Garfunkel .
The Head of the Film and TV Graphics Studio prepared two main tasks for his students: the creation of a theme song for ANIFILM, the International Festival of Animated Films in Třeboň, and the design of comic books on the theme of Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles".
Rony Plesl's students in the Glass Studio focused on the development of individual projects aimed at the forthcoming exhibition of the Glass Studio at Pillnitz Castle on the outskirts of Dresden. The exhibition, organised in conjunction with the Kunstgewerbemuseum Dresden and the Okolo creative group, will take place in autumn 2015.
An exhibition by the Department of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Hynek Alt and Václav Kopecký will be held in the UM Gallery during Artsemestr.
Artsemestr is a regular presentation of work for the general public by students of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. For students, Artsemestr represents one of the most important periods in their studies. The projects exhibited here by students represent the most valuable of their semestral work. The public has an exceptional opportunity of viewing what visions and ideas, materials and processes are crucial for students at the present moment.
The number of studios and their particular specialisations (Architecture, Design, Fine Arts, Graphics and Applied Arts) present a wide range of expression. Consequently, this show is becoming the most comprehensive and varied perspective on current young creation in Art and Applied Design.
