For someone half a year's anticipation for an upcoming exhibition, for someone else intense work from morning to night. Brought on by ARTSEMESTR, a presentation of semester and finals projects from the students of the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design (UMPRUM) in Prague. This time ARTSEMESTR will be on display from Thursday, June 6th to Sunday, June 9th through the entire building of UMPRUM.
ARTSEMESTR is not only an exhibition but also proof and an evaluation of continuous work within a given semester. Both long-term topics and short-term assignments are presented. A total of 23 accredited studios and visiting artist ateliers will be presented at ARTSEMESTR in summer 2019.
“ARTSEMESTR summer 2019 is the first time I can watch from the position of rector. I am particularly pleased that reciprocally various studios are able to deepen their cooperation. This is one of the things that makes our school unique,” says the new rector of UMPRUM prof. Jindřich Vybíral.
Visitors can look forward to an infinite scale of different topics and works. Project collaborations worth mentioning are for example "Puppet Theater", where the Studio of Furniture and Interior Design and the Studio of Illustration and Graphics joined forces. The year-long project by the Studio of Textile Design, which combines the original craft tradition of processing glass beads with new technologies and textile work, ties together projects by the Studio of Fashion Design. The fashion design students prepared a collection from originally printed fabrics of their classmates. The results of the Glass Studio to the theme of "Still Life" were again welcome objects for the creative collaboration with the Studio of Photography II.
The Studio of Graphic Design and Visual Communications dedicated the development of the ABC's, the Studio of Concept – Object – Meaning (K.O.V.) among other things, will exhibit a collection of mini architecture cast in bronze and the Industrial Design Studio will present a new cabin for the Petrin cable car. This time, the Architecture department focused on selected locations of different cities - the Studio of Architecture I created designs for Jihlava, the Studio of Architecture IV designed for Český Krumlov and the Studio of Architecture II brought the urban concept of the Smíchov's railway bridge to the foreground. The Fine Art departments were left in many cases with unlimited space for creativity without restrictions.
One of the plans of Rector Jindrich Vybíral is for the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design (UMPRUM) to have more openness with the public. Recently, guided tours are included in the ARTSEMESTR program. For those who would like to see final and semester projects with guided commentary, they are prepared as part of the Prague's Museum Night program.
