Canvas. Junge Malerei aus Prag, Dresden und Berlin
12. 1. – 15. 2. 2017
Czech Centre Berlin
Students and graduates of the UMPRUM Studio of Painting - Lucie Rubínová, Iveta Bradáčová, Adam Vít, Tomáš Bryscejn - will present their work at the group exhibition Canvas. Junge Malerei aus Prag, Dresden und Berlin in the Czech Center Berlin. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Czech Center in Berlin, the studio of Jiří Černický and Michal Novotný of UMPRUM in Prague, the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden and, the Universität der Künste Berlin. What can painting achieve today? When a brush stroke becomes a motif, does it mean that it is a departure from socially relevant positions? What role does preferring traditional materials such as the brush, paint, and canvas play in today's society, which is increasingly shaped by digital technologies? What are the similarities or differences that can be found between these two paradigms and what is their significance when considering globalized exhibition operations and an earnings-oriented market? What can painting mean today? These and other questions are asked in the exhibition "Canvas" open in the Czech Center of Berlin until February 15th, 2018.
