The Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague must once again say goodbye to a number of students who complete their studies. What the school gave them, what they learned, and how they were shaped during their studies, can be seen in the large show of final works DIPLOMA & BACHELOR PROJECTS 2019.

We see the exhibition DIPLOMA & BACHELOR PROJECTS  as a great finale of the whole of the students’ studies. The result of what the school could give our students in four, two or six years. With great interest, I watch how students change from seeking talent to becoming mature young designers, architects, and artists. I wish all students success in their next creations and that each project is better than the last,” says the rector of UMPRUM prof. Jindřich Vybíral.

Once again a lot of quality work is presented here. Many of them responded to current social values and challenges, sustainable behavior and ecology. It would be unfair to choose the best project so therefore in a nutshell a few interesting ones will be mentioned. Lenka Juchelková from the Studio of Architecture I deals with the issue of social housing in the capital city in the thesis “This Country is Not for the Young”. In the Studio of Illustration and Graphics, they dealt with ecology, sustainable life and escape from contemporary social pressures. Zuzana Bramborová wrote the book "The Worm Asks Questions (Gardening for Children and Adults)" and David Dolenský "Rufus's Handbook - A Comic Guide of the Woodsman". Jakub Mendel from the Industrial Design Studio, devoted himself to “Aesthetic sustainability of car design”, he was looking for an ideal solution for cars, not only aesthetic but also social.

Michael Rosa, from the same studio, diverted from industrial design and created an informational game for the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design, which helps especially new students get a better orientation of the studios. Adam Štok from the Studio of Furniture and Interior Design produced a collection of stackable chairs "Nyiny Chairs" using the technology of hydraulic pressing.

We should also mention the graduate student Kryštof Strejc from the Studio of Painting and his series of paintings "Super Cure", where he critically responds to the attitudes and values of representatives of richer classes. Jan Kolský from the Studio of Photography points to a new type of work that was created through the development of digital technologies and is not dissimilar to working at an assembly line. Lenka Glisníková addresses new technologies and their increasing substitution of human labor in her project called Gadget Tools.

For example, the Bachelor Studio of Product Design had a studio-wide project theme and were involved in leather as their topic. Students of the Studio of Ceramics and Porcelain created works inspired by the history of the studio and its teachers. Their realization can be seen at the exhibition Výpal(firing) 100 Years of the Studio of Ceramics and Porcelain UMPRUM in the UM Gallery.

The 2019 DIPLOMA & BACHELOR PROJECTS is not only focused on the studios of UMPRUM. Many installations and exhibitions can be seen in various galleries and spaces throughout Prague. For example, the graduates of the Studio of Fashion Design and the Studio of Fashion and Footwear Design will present themselves together at the exhibition uTržitelnost in the Kvalitář Gallery. Their work combines the themes of sustainability, a responsible attitude, and a perception of problems in the textile industry. The Studio of Intermedia Art organized the exhibition Curated by us! at the HYB4 Gallery and the premiere screening of Bachelor's and Master's theses of the Studio of Film and TV Graphics on the big screen will take place on Saturday at Kino Ponrepo.

The main exhibition DIPLOMA & BACHELOR PROJECTS will be on display until Friday, June 21st, 2019.
