Everything Means Nothing To Me
Created: 30. 8. 2018 from Vysoká škola uměleckoprůmyslová v Praze

September 6th – October 13th, 2018
Opening: Wednesday, September 5th at 6 pm

Gallery UM, UMPRUM, nám. Jana Palacha 80, Praha 1

The main inspiration for the first autumn exhibition at the UM Gallery is the song Everything Means Nothing To Me by Elliott Smith. It leads to a search for values and goals, and at the same time gives hope that emotional investment and personal experience are still one of the most durable forces of all.

The creators David Fesl, Kateřina Holá and Jiří Kovanda approached the work in the gallery space differently than usual. They work in a joint creative team where the role between curator and artist becomes blended. One of the determining factors for the installation is the role played by the Gallery UM. The exhibition draws the viewer straight into the storyline and emphasizes poetry, meaning, and symbolism.

The works are created for a specific situation and space. From this show, we promise to step out of our comfort zones. We work in several layers. We are interested in inertial relationships, sticky touch, and secret contact of these layers and their interactions. Using romantic micro-stories, we create a larger composite environment interlaced with lots of associations and desperately large gestures, " writes the creator.

The show Everything Means Nothing To Me directly communicates with the viewer. It does not matter that it may sound too romantically naive. The important problem is to establish a relationship with people and the lone standing viewer. One becomes part of the installation right after entering the gallery. The mirrors on the walls immediately draw one into the process and incorporate them into the exhibition. It all arises at a specific place and time.

The exhibition is complemented by Matúš Buranovský's visuals, which use a certain psychedelic, schizophrenic, inexplicable, and unreadable face.

Not only will the empty gallery with artwork invite viewers, but you will always be there, with the gallery and artifacts. We cordially invite you.

Someone found the future as a statue
In a fountain
At attention looking backward in a
Pool of water
Wishes with a blue
Songbird on his shoulder
Who keeps singing over everything
Everything means nothing to me
Everything means nothing to me
Everything means nothing to me
I picked up the song and found my picture
In the paper
The reflection in the water shouted
"Are your men still
Trying to salute
People from a time when he was
Everything he's supposed to be?"
Everything means nothing to me
