Pierre Bal-Blanc (1965, FR), one of the curators of Documenta 14 (2017, Kassel, Germany and Athens, Greece), began his career as one of the performers for the work of Félix González-Torres. He was the director of CAC Bretigny, France, between 2003-2014. His important curatorial projects include The Death of the Audience (Secession, Vienna, Austria, 2009) and La Monnaie Vivante (STUK, Leuven, Belgium, 2007/ Tate Modern, London, UK, 2008/ 6th Berlin Biennale, Berlin, Germany 2010).

Pierre Bal-Blanc’s work deals with re-defining formats such as an exhibition, a programme or a collection in relation to performativity, temporality and Art economy. In his project for Documenta 14, hired dancers-performers enacted a free choreography based on gestures extracted from the works of selected artists, previously involved in the process of making the choreography. The project took place in the Piraeus archeological museum in Athens, Greece.
