Last Fata Morgana won International Fashion Showcase 2016
19 to 23 February 2016 in Somerset House, London
The exhibition Last Fata Morgana, which Paul Ivančic mounted together with AAAD students and graduates for the International Fashion Showcase, won the top award.
The show, which takes place within the London Fashion Week, this year was on the theme of "Fashion Utopias" and presented installations by young designers from 24 countries. The main prize of the show, awarded by a jury consisting of prominent figures of the fashion world led by Sarah Mower, went to the exhibition by the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague, Last Fata Morgana.
"It's a fantastic achievement, especially considering that the individual exhibits of other countries were created by renowned designers, while in our case the project was defended by a group of students and recent AAAD graduates. Another great honour for us was the comparison Sarah Mower made with Saint Martin’s College." Thus the curator of the project, Pavel Ivančic, describes its success. Ivančic is the head of the Studio of Fashion Design at AAAD.
"This achievement has exceptional value for our school and is proof that the quality of our studios of fashion and textile design has been rising in recent years. I am very pleased that fashion design, following in the footsteps of the studios dealing with industrial and product design, glass and porcelain, is achieving recognition not only in the Czech Republic, but also in world capitals such as London,” said AAAD Rector Prof. ak. arch Jindrich Smetana.
The Last Fata Morgana exhibition will also be on display from the end of April in Galerie Smečky in Prague and Pavel Ivančic and his team plan to expand it for the occasion. Among other things, the exhibition will also feature photographs by Karin Zadrick and Beth Orten, who shot for the occasion a special photo series on the seashore with the same title, Last Fata Morgana.
The Academy’s UMPRUM Publishing House has published a catalogue of the exhibition with photographs by Karin Zadrick and layout by Jiří Mocek.
The International Fashion Showcase is held annually in cooperation with the British Council and the British Fashion Council (BFC). The exhibition was mounted in a collaboration between the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and the Czech Centre London, which takes part in International Fashion Showcase for the third time.
