Our Flat / Náš byt
A one-day Visual Arts students exhibition
November the 16th, 2019
6.30 pm - 10.30 pm
Seifertova 15, 130 00 Praha, Česká Republika
“Our” flat is like “our” Earth - a place we occupy for a moment while time flows clearly in one direction. Though we may spend only an hour there, for that time, its boundaries define our social context and offer possibilities for action. For that time, the big trees, deep roots, and broken windows that form its structure make it our home, regardless of where we come from.
The building at Siefertova 15 has had many occupants, and its architectural essence is multifaceted; parts seem like a cabin, others an apartment, others a squatted house. Whatever we call it, the edifice itself is only a temporary occupant on a hillside in a place currently known as “Žižkov”, and soon it will face drastic change. This impending transformation will come in waves: first, that driven by gentrification and “development”, and second, by the more profound, constantly-worsening environmental shift. In this context, a group of artists from numerous countries take this moment to reverently respond to the building in its current state before it changes forever.
Exhibiting artists: Nahuel Gerth, Jonne Väisänen, Sasha Rose, Begüm Erçam, Minami Nishinaga, Maria Kuznetzova, Karolina Prom, Loretta Lau, Kristin Gravdal, Magda Chmielowska
