UMPRUM’s exhibition at Salone Internazionale del Mobile as part of Milan Design Week
Exhibition dates: 4th April – 9th April, 2017
Location: Via Privata Oslavia 3, Ventura Lambrate, Milan
UMPRUM’s exhibition EPHEMERAL_ETERNAL has been selected as a candidate for the Milan Design Award as one of the top 40 most inspiring exhibitions at Milan Design Week.
UMPRUM presented its exhibition EPHEMERAL_ETERNAL at the international design fair Salone Internazionale del Mobile as part of Milan Design Week. The collection consists of three original projects by UMPRUM students/graduates Lenka Vacková (product design), Ondřej Přibyl (photography) and Vendula Radostová (fashion design). The collection, which is curated by Lada Hubatová, merges the school’s more than 130-year history of enduring art-craft values with contemporary trends to critique the consumer lifestyle. The unifying theme of the exhibition is the semantic counterpoint between various approaches to time – ephemeral or eternal, mobile or stable, fast or last, instantaneous or durable – raising questions about the relationship of passing time with various objects and images.
For the seventh year running, the Milan Design Award announced the candidates for best exhibition design. Prague’s UMPRUM was one of the 40 most inspiring installations chosen by an expert jury from among the 450 installations on show during Milan Design Week.
Prof Jiří Pelcl, architectural designer of the exhibition, says: “It’s a huge honour for our school to be recognised, especially given such strong international competition. We were selected alongside elite brands such as Cartier, Cassina, Panasonic, Wallpaper, Foscarini, Audi and Samsung and eminent schools such as Central Saint Martins in London and Aalto University in Helsinki.”
With this success, UMPRUM not only confirms its high standing among art schools in the Czech Republic but also on the international scene.
