A Czech exhibition in London of young fashion designers, organised for the second time by the Czech Centre London in collaboration with the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, occupied the top ranks at the International Fashion Showcase (IFS), the prestigious international exhibition which takes place as an accompanying event to the world-famous London Fashion Week. For its exhibition, entitled ‘There Is Only You’, the Czech Republic received a special mention from the judging panel of experts, which was led by the prominent fashion critic Sarah Mower, who writes for US Vogue. Kateřina Plamitzerová, one of the exhibition’s designers, was also nominated for the prize for the Best Designer.

Commenting on her success, Kateřina Plamitzerová said “I’m very happy about the nomination.  It was wonderful to hear my name among such great competitors from around the world”.  “The nominations are above all a response to the unique style of design which comes from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and, for me personally, satisfaction with the long-term support that the Czech Centre London provides to fashion and design”,added  Tereza Porybná, director of the Czech Centre London.

As well as the Czech Republic, 26 other countries attended this year’s IFS, including Guatemala, Taiwan and Poland.  The main prize, the Country Award, was awarded to India, for the exhibition ‘The Indian Pastoralists’, which captivated the judging panel with its concept of connecting modern fashion with Indian pastoralism.

Commenting on the success of the Czech team at the IFS, the curator of the exhibition, Pavel Ivančic, who has led the fashion design studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague since 2012, said “It was a wonderful experience.  We’re happy that we succeeded in gaining two nominations.  In an international competition, we have done well and have therefore successfully defended our position on the map of the fashion world, with a capital M”.

The IFS is held every year in collaboration with the British Council and the British Fashion Council (BFC).  The exhibition organised by the Czech Centre London and the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, entitled ‘There Is Only You’, presents the most recent work of five talented designers – Michaela Čapková, Filip Hieke, Tereza Rosálie Kladošová, Tereza Ledvinová and Kateřina Plamitzerová.

Thanks to the Czech Centre London, the Czech Republic is participating in the exhibition for the fourth time.
