We warmly invite you to From Craft to Technology: Ways of Making in Contemporary Material Culture, a lecture presented as part of the accompanying programme of the Sow Hemp! exhibition.

The lecture explores the evolving relationship between craft and technology and the significance of locally situated material knowledge in contemporary creative practice. What technological principles are embedded in traditional and contemporary craft practices? How have these practices been transformed through industrialisation, and what potential do they hold for design, architecture, and the development of more environmentally responsible ways of making?

Through the international research project Ignored Technology, we will introduce a critical approach to historical and contemporary material practices, their experimental investigation, and possibilities for further development. In connection with the Sow Hemp! exhibition, we will also focus on industrial hemp, exploring its processing techniques and potential applications. Moving beyond specific material experiments, the lecture will address broader questions of technological diversity, locality, and the future of material culture.

The lecture will be followed by a guided tour of the Sow Hemp! exhibition.
