In 2020, UMPRUM published a book by Anežka Minaříková about Clara Istlerová. Two months ago, its English edition, Clara Istlerová: A Life Among Letters, was released by the American publishing house Inventory Press, with a book launch held at the Czech Center in New York.
The first publication in the U.S. dedicated to Clara Istlerová (b. 1944), one of the first women to make a name for herself in Czech typography. The book features an interview conducted by Anežka Minaříková, offers a glimpse into Istlerová’s personal archive, and explores the process behind the creation of books that helped shape the visual style of 20th-century Czech design.
The publication was a collaborative effort involving several former UMPRUM students.
