Cyril Říha specialises in the theory of cities and contemporary architecture, with a focus on its intersections with other disciplines in both the humanities and the natural sciences. Recently, he has been researching the interrelationships between Czech architecture and politics since 1989. His work also explores analogies between biological and urban systems, as well as the issue of the intermingling of human settlements and nature, such as vague terrains in cities and construction in protected landscape areas. He teaches courses on the fundamentals of modern science and philosophy, complex phenomena in architecture and urbanism, and a seminar on contemporary architecture.
