Photography II
The Studio of Photography 2 (F2) understands photography as an open and evolving field, and as a medium whose potential is most fully realised in relation to other disciplines, modes of inquiry, and contemporary visual culture. Alongside a strong emphasis on technical competence in applied photography and active cooperation with other studios, the studio supports self-directed exploration, the development of individual artistic positions, and the articulation of distinct visual languages. We encourage students to develop sensitivity, attentiveness, and a critically informed understanding of the present. Particular attention is given to themes that move beyond the purely personal - questions through which students may not only define their own position, but also arrive at a more complex understanding of the world around them. The studio regularly collaborates with guest practitioners and specialists from other fields, including in the context of research-based projects.
In the long term, we are interested in the porous boundary between applied and autonomous photography, and in the productive tension that arises from their mutual interpenetration. Through carefully structured assignments, students are given the opportunity not only to deepen their practice, but also to establish relationships and forms of collaboration that may extend beyond the framework of their studies. At the same time, the studio provides space for independent projects, including work conceived for exhibition and presentation within a gallery context.
We uphold the conviction that art school should offer students the conditions in which to learn how to approach the contemporary world with freedom, intellectual openness, and a capacity for independent thought.
