Arts and Design Management
The Arts and Design Management study program was created in response to the development and new challenges at UMPRUM, as well as to the changes in the cultural scene, the cultural and art market, and the world of design. It aims to prepare future graduates for careers in public, commercial, and non-commercial institutions and companies, as well as for the opportunity to build their own cultural, artistic, or design brands and projects.
The study program consists of two major elements: the study of management, marketing, and art, and practical experience gained during practical courses and a compulsory internship. Based on their interests and goals, students can specialize in one of the following areas: architecture, fine arts, design, applied arts, or graphic design. During lectures and seminars, students will interact with both UMPRUM faculty and prominent professionals in the field, as well as a range of inspiring guest speakers.
An essential part of the program is a mandatory internship, which can be completed either at UMPRUM or at external institutions and companies. Through collaboration with UMPRUM studios, students have the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into how the field operates and to explore various aspects of work in cultural management. In practice, they will be able to help launch future successful projects and brands. During internships with external partners, students, on the other hand, learn how established cultural or artistic institutions operate and what lies behind the success of major domestic brands and companies.
MUD is intended for graduates of bachelor’s programs in the arts and for graduates – though not exclusively – of bachelor’s programs in management, marketing, marketing communications, economics, cultural studies, or art theory. It is precisely the connection between students from practical and theoretical bachelor’s programs and their mutual exchange of experiences and opinions that is an important aspect of the program.

The study program was developed within the project UMPRUM KREATIVNÍ A INOVATIVNÍ, NPO_UMPRUM_MSMT-16590/2022.
The program will enable graduates to successfully apply their skills and knowledge in public and private institutions in the fields of culture and the creative industries, while also providing them with the opportunity to develop and manage their own artistic or cultural projects. The ability to communicate, manage, and innovate will be key to their professional success. Students will learn how to plan, implement, and oversee complex artistic projects of an institutional, commercial, and non-commercial nature.
Graduates are well-positioned for professional careers as managers or producers in the fields of culture and the creative industries. During their studies, they can focus on a specific area of the creative industries (architecture, fine arts, applied arts, design, or graphic design), in which they will develop and strengthen their managerial skills. Graduates are expected to find employment in both private and public institutions, at the domestic or international level. Likewise, graduates will acquire the necessary know-how to potentially develop and manage their own project, brand, or startup.
Examples of possible career paths that graduates might choose based on their personal interests and specializations:
- founder of an art startup or design brand
- manager of a gallery, museum, or cultural center
- visual arts producer
- international project manager
- art consultant
- art gallery manager
- cultural festival producer
- art studio manager
- design firm manager
- PR and communications manager at a cultural institution
