Austrian architect Alexander Hagner, together with Ulrike Schartner, has long explored how architecture can foster coexistence among people. Their Vienna-based studio gaupenraub+/- searches for ways to practice architecture with sensitivity — mindful of both individuals and society — and to use space as a medium for dialogue and connection.
On Wednesday at Kafkárna, Hagner will present the project ๐“ฅ๐“ฒ๐“ท๐”ƒ๐“ฒ๐“ก๐“ช๐“ผ๐“ฝ–๐“ถ๐“ฒ๐“ฝ๐“ฝ๐“ฎ๐“ท๐“ญ๐“ป๐“ฒ๐“ท, a house where students, people experiencing homelessness, and migrants live together under one roof. What began as an experiment has become a place that demonstrates how architecture can serve as both a meeting ground and an instrument of change.
In his lecture “What we can do”, Alexander Hagner will share insights from more than twenty years of working on projects that link architecture and social responsibility — and will reflect on what more we can do to strengthen our shared “we.”
