The theme of the academic year 2018/19 of the UMPRUM Studio of Fashion and Footwear Design was the sustainability and ethics in the fashion and textile industry. “Sustainability and ethical attitude are a major challenge for the fashion industry today. We would like to draw attention to the absurdity of mass production with this project. We realize that we will not change much, but we want people to think about this topic and look for new ways,” says Professor Liběna Rochová, head of the studio.

The presented works of students combine aspects of sustainability, ethics of the clothing industry, zero waste, recycling and the renaissance of craft with aesthetics. At the same time, moving away from the accelerating cycle of mass production, and breaking away from trends and slavery to marketability gives students room to express their individual attitude to the unsustainable situation of the fashion industry and to present their visions.
