Eva Eisler & Alumni

Professor Eva Eisler and alumni from the K.O.V. Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague come together in an exhibition which is third in a series of Marzee shows spotlighting the creative direction and aesthetic and intellectual approach with which tutors anchor their courses, and how this informs the work of their students.

Czech artist Eva Eisler transforms the purest motifs and materials into objects of compelling visual, as well as conceptual, impact. Her unlimited talent as a designer/maker, the ability to reinterpret historical imperatives through a contemporary lens, and the generosity to share—not impose—her personal aesthetic, has also made her a beloved teacher, one who takes genuine pride in her students’ achievements, and has led to international recognition for them through K.O.V. studio, a collective that has been granted well-deserved exhibitions and awards through the years. When I was first introduced to K.O.V. studio, I was astonished by the quality and scope of this so-called “student” work, which I found to be mature and sophisticated, original and diverse, evidence that Eisler—herself a “minimalist”—held no prejudices nor persuasions. The work that K.O.V. studio consistently produces exemplifies Eisler’s pedagogical latitude, surpassing the qualitative criteria for “emerging” artists.
