Admission procedure for the accredited Postgraduate Master’s degree programmes for the academic year 2027/28

Entry requirements

· Completion of bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field (at the time of the entrance examination the applicant may be a final-year student);
· Knowledge of the Czech language for applicants from countries other than the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic (certificate required – a certified Czech-language exam for foreigners at a B1 level);
· Interest in the relevant field.

How to apply

The applicant may apply to only one studio and must submit the application exclusively via the electronic application form that will be available on the UMPRUM website (www.umprum.cz) during October 2026.

The deadline for submitting electronic applications is 30 November 2026.

The application fee of 1000 CZK must be paid by bank transfer.

When transferring money from a foreign (non-Czech) bank account the sent sume of money must be increased so that the resulting amount is not less than the requested fee.

Required supporting documents

Mandatory supporting documents, the scanned copies of which must be sent electronically along the with electronic application by 30 November 2026, without which the application will not be included in the admission procedure, are as follows:

• Letter of motivation
• Curriculum vitae
• Copy of the bachelor´s or mater´s degree certificate*, or a written confirmation from the relevant university (stamp and signature of the authorized person are required) that the student is currently in the final year of university education. 

  Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree from a university outside of the Czech Republic or the Slovak Republic must submit the above document in English language.

PLEASE NOTE!!! Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree from a university outside of the Czech Republic or the Slovak Republic who successfully pass the entrance examinations must obtain a certificate of recognition of their foreign education before the deadline for enrolment in the 1st year of study. Such applicants are eligible to apply for assessment of their foreign education which will only be valid for this specific admission procedure, or they can apply for a general recognition with unlimited validity. *Applicants who successfully complete the admission procedure are obliged to submit an officially-certified copy of their bachelor´s or master´s certificate, or an officially-certified copy of the certificate of the recognition of their foreign education at the time of enrolment. This will meet all legal and other requirements for admission to study.

• Copy of the certificate - a certified examination in Czech for foreigners proving the knowledge of the Czech language at B1 level, passed at any language centre of Charles University or a foreign language centre of Charles University (only applicants with a nationality other than Czech or Slovak are required to provide proof); foreign applicants who provide a certificate of the completion of the secondary school/university education from a Czech school conducted in the Czech language are not required to provide proof.

Applicants from Ukraine coming to the Czech Republic due to Russian aggression do not have to present a certificate of their proficiency in Czech language at B1 level. However, enrolment in studies for these applicants will be conditional on passing a Czech language exam, which will take place before enrolment in studies at UMPRUM.

Note: Name the electronic documents according to their type and add your name and surname, e.g. motivacni_dopis_Jan_Novak, zivotopis_Jan_Novak, maturita_Jan_Novak, etc.

 

Admission procedure

The admission procedure begins with a submission of a valid application form along with the required mandatory supporting documents by the above date. On the basis of a valid application, the applicant will receive an invitation to the entrance examination.

Entrance examinations consists of two rounds.

First round
The first round will take place remotely on 5 January 2027 at the latest (replacement date not scheduled).

Applicants will be receive an email asking them to upload their digital portfolios to their electronic applications by 5 January 2027. This also applies to students in the final year of their bachelor's studies at UMPRUM. ALL applicants must remember their login details.

During this round, the applicant's portfolio, CV and other mandatory supporting documents are assessed.

Evaluation criteria for the 1st round:
Talent and creativity: The originality of ideas and the applicant’s individual approach, visual presentation of the works included in the applicant´s portfolio,  the ability to think conceptually.

Technical execution: The level of craftsmanship and aesthetic quality demonstrated in the works.

Interest in the field: The appropriate selection of works relevant to the given field of study, and the overall persuasiveness of the portfolio and the applicant’s aptitude for the chosen study programme.

The assessment will take place on 20 January 2027 and will be marked as pass or fail. If the applicant succeeds in the first round, they progress to the second round.

The first round is assessed by the studio commission. Applicants who are unsuccessful in any part of the entrance examinations will receive a decision of non-admission to study due to failure to meet admission requirements to the programme.

Second round:
The second round will take place in person on 10-12 February 2027 (replacement date not scheduled).

The following will be assessed: interview, portfolio, outcomes of artistic assignments completed at UMPRUM.

Evaluation criteria for the 2nd round
Artistic assignments: completion of the assignments (how the applicant understood the topic and how they developed their solution within a limited time frame); creativity and flexibility (the ability to think creatively and solve artistic problems).

Interview: motivation (interest in studying the chosen field, theoretical knowledge and understanding of the discipline); presentation skills (the ability to present one’s own work and respond effectively to questions from the admissions committee).

The applicant is assessed with a point score (0-12 points, max. 36 points) for each part of the second round of the entrance examinations separately.

Final decision

The second round is assessed by the department commission.

The final score for the admission procedure is calculated by adding up the scores achieved in each individual assignment during the second round.

A minimum requirement for consideration is a score of 25 points.

Scoring 24 points or less means that the applicant is not successful in the admission process and will receive a decision of non-admission to study due to failure to meet admission requirements to the programme.

Applicant ranking for admissions is determined by overall entrance examination scores, from highest to lowest within each studio.

The maximum number of applicants admitted to each studio within the Design, Fine Arts, Graphics and Visual Communication study programmes is 3.

The maximum number of applicants admitted to each studio within the Architecture study programme is 3, except for the Studio of Architecture II, where up to 6 applicants may be admitted.

In exceptional cases the applicant may be offered a place in a different studio.

If an applicant meets the required admission score for the study programme but the capacity of the respective studio has been reached, the applicant will receive a decision of non-admission due to capacity constraints.

The UMPRUM’s Rector has the final deciding vote about the admission of an applicant to study based on the recommendations by the Main Admission Commission.

The Rector will admit such a number of successful applicants that the resulting number of enrolled students in individual studios does not exceed the maximum possible capacity.
