Entry requirements
- A completed secondary education (at the time of the entrance examination the applicant may be a final-year student);
- Knowledge of the Czech language for applicants from countries other than the Czech and Slovak republics; (certificate required – a certified Czech-language exam for foreigners at a B1 level);
- Interest in the relevant field.
How to apply
The applicant can only apply for one studio and only via an electronic application form that will be available on the UMPRUM website (www.umprum.cz) during October 2025.
The deadline for submitting electronic applications is 30 November 2025.
The application fee of 990 CZK must be paid by bank transfer.
When transferring money from a foreign (non-Czech) bank account the sent sume of money must be increased so that the resulting amount is not less than the requested fee.

Paying in with slips not accepted!
When depositing money into a bank account (at a KB branch), please indicate the applicant's first name and surname and their application number.
We recommend paying the application fee immediately after submitting the application using the QR code that will be displayed after submitting the application. The latest date for making the payment/transfer must be the same as the deadline for submitting the electronic application.
The payment information will only appear in the online application after it has been processed by the UMPRUM finance department (i.e., you will not see the payment information immediately after making the payment).
When paying via online payment services (such as Revolut), remember to include your application number, first name and surname as reference for beneficiary.
If the applicant does not pay the fee by the specified deadline and in the specified form, the admission procedure will be terminated.
Required supporting documents
Mandatory supporting documents, the scanned copies of which must be sent electronically along the with electronic application by 30 November 2025, without which the application will not be included in the admission procedure, are as follows:

Copy of a certificate proving the completion of the secondary school education* ("maturitni vysvedceni"), or a written confirmation by the relevant school (stamp and signature of the authorized person are required) that the student is studying in the last and final year.
Applicants with a certificate from a school outside of the Czech Republic or Slovak Republic must submit the above document in English language.
PLEASE NOTE!!! Applicants who received their certificate from a school outside of the Czech Republic or Slovak Republics and successfully pass the entrance examinations must obtain a certificate of recognition of their foreign education before the deadline for enrolment in the 1st year of study. Such applicants are eligible to apply for assessment of their foreign education at UMPRUM which will only be valid for this specific admission procedure, or they can apply for a general recognition with unlimited validity with regional authorities based on where the applicant lives in the Czech Republic. Details on both types of recognition can be found here.
*Applicants who successfully complete the admission procedure are obliged to submit an officially-certified copy of a certificate proving the completion of the secondary school education, or an officially-certified copy of the certificate of the recognition of their foreign education at the time of enrolment. This will meet all legal and other requirements for admission to study. -
Copy of the certificate - a certified examination in Czech for foreigners proving the knowledge of the Czech language at the B1 level, passed at any language centre of Charles University or a foreign language centre of Charles University (only applicants with a nationality other than Czech or Slovak are required to provide proof); foreign applicants who provide a certificate of the completion of the secondary school education from a Czech school conducted in the Czech language are not required to provide proof.
Applicants from Ukraine coming to the Czech Republic due to Russian aggression do not have to present a certificate of their proficiency in Czech language at a B1 level. However, enrolment in studies for these applicants will be conditional on passing a Czech language exam, which will take place before enrolment in studies at UMPRUM.
Note: Name the electronic documents according to their type and add your name and surname, e.g. motivacni_dopis_Jan_Novak, zivotopis_Jan_Novak, maturita_Jan_Novak, etc.
Admission procedure
The admission procedure begins with a submission of a valid application form along with the required mandatory supporting documents by the above date. On the basis of a valid application, the applicant will receive an invitation to the entrance examination.
Entrance examinations take place in two rounds.

The first round of the entrance examinations at the Departments of Architecture, Design, Fine Arts, Applied Arts I and II and in some graphic design studios (Studio of Graphic Design and Visual Communication, Studio of Animation and Film, Studio of Photography II, Studio of Design and Digital Technology) will take place remotely.
The first round of the entrance examinations in the rest of the graphic design studios (Studio of Illustration and Graphics, Studio of Type Design and Typography, Studio of Graphic Design and New Media) will take place in person. Details below!
First round - remotely

The first round will take place remotely on 5 January 2026 at the latest (replacement date not scheduled).
Applicants will be asked to upload their electronic portfolios to their electronic applications by 5 January 2026. Applicants must remember their login details.
During this round, the applicant's portfolio, CV and other mandatory supporting documents are assessed.
The assessment will take place on 20 January 2026 and will be marked as pass or fail. If the applicant succeeds in the first round, they progress to the second round.
First round - in person
Department of Graphics - some studios only !!! (Illustration and Graphics, Type Design and Typography, Graphic Design and New Media)
The first round will take place in person on 9 February 2026 (replacement date not scheduled). The applicant will receive an invitation to the entrance examination. Personal attendance is necessary. The participants submit their portfolios and will be given tasks to work on.
The following will be assessed: the applicant's portfolio, CV and all mandatory supporting documents (hereinafter referred to as „portfolio“), result of the artistic task performed at UMPRUM.
The assessment will be carried out by the studio commission and will be marked as pass or fail. The result of the artistic task and the potfolio are assessed separately. If the participant succeeds in both parts of entrance examinations they proceed to the second round.
Applicants who are unsuccessful in any part of the entrance examinations will receive a decision of non-admission to study due to failure to meet admission requirements to the programme.
Second round (applies to all studios):
The second round will take place in person on 10-13 February 2026 (replacement date not scheduled).
This part of the admission procedure starts with a test on the history of art and general cultural knowledge - recommended literature: Ernst Hans Gombrich - Story of Art, ed. Argo in 2006; Rostislav Švácha, Taťána Petrasová - Art in the Czech lands: 800-2000, ed. Arbor Vitae in 2018 (publications also available in English). A sample test is attached.
In addition, the results of the artistic tasks performed during the entrance examinations and applicant´s qualification for study in the chosen discipline are evaluated during interviews with the studio tutors.
The following will be assessed: result of the test on the history of art (by the Department of Theory and History of Art), interview, portfolio, results of four artistic tasks performed at UMPRUM (by department commission).
The applicant is assessed with a point score (0-12 points, max. 84 points) for each part of the second round of the entrance examinations separately.
Final decision
Based on the results in the second round, the department commission suggests individual applicants for admission.
The final score for the admission procedure is calculated by adding up the scores achieved in each individual tasks during the second round.
A minimum requirement for consideration is a score of 60 points.
Scoring 59 points or less means that the applicant is not successful in the admission process and will receive a decision of non-admission to study due to failure to meet admission requirements to the programme.
Applicant ranking for admissions is determined by overall entrance examination scores, from highest to lowest within each studio.
In exceptional cases the applicant may be offered a place in a different studio.
The UMPRUM’s Rector has the final deciding vote about the admission of an applicant to study based on the recommendations by the Main Admission Commission.
The Rector will accept such a number of successful applicants that the resulting number of enrolled students in individual studios does not exceed the maximum possible capacity. The maximum number of applicants accepted within a single studio is 3. The maximum number of applicants accepted into a studio does not have to be filled.
