The Fine Arts Departement UMPRUM, in collaboration with the Czech Center New York and Flux Factory, announces an open call for residency stays in New York intended for UMPRUM graduates – that is, artists who completed their studies at Fine Arts no more than five years ago.
Two residencies will take place in September 2026 at the premises of the international arts center Flux Factory and the Czech Center New York. Selected artists will be provided with accommodation and studio space for a period of twenty days, as well as an artist fee.
The residency stays are intended for the development of a new project or artistic research. Due to the limited time frame, they are not suitable for the physical production of artworks.
Thematically, the project should build upon the framework of the exhibition Station for Paused Forecasting by students of the Studio of Fine Arts at UMPRUM, which took place at the Czech Center New York in 2025 and explored the experience of an emerging generation of artists entering professional practice in the context of an uncertain future. Projects addressing themes of anticipation, internal and external crises, and the shifting “landscapes” of the contemporary moment are therefore especially welcome.
As part of the residency, participants are expected to organize at least one public activity (such as a workshop, presentation, or lecture).
Application requirements:
- portfolio (PDF or link)
- motivation letter (including an outline of the proposed research focus, max. 1 standard page)
- CV / résumé
Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of the submitted portfolio, the relevance of the proposed project, and the applicant’s motivation.
Timeline:
- application deadline: June 15, 2026
- announcement of results: June 30, 2026
- residency period: September 1–21, 2026
Applications, as well as any questions, can be sent to: kvu-vedeni@umprum.cz
