The exhibition Un/Bound Body presents the current work of the UMPRUM Studio of Concept – Object – Meaning (K.O.V.) at the Schmuck festival in Munich. The project does not stem from a traditional understanding of jewellery as ornament, but from a need to rethink the relationship between the body and the object.
The body is not treated here as a bearer of decoration or as a passive form to be completed. It becomes a measure, a structure, a tool, and a constraint. The students worked with the notion of the norm as a system of proportions, rules, and expectations that determine how the body moves and how it is perceived. The norm was understood not as an obstacle, but as a point of departure for its reassessment.
The resulting works are not primarily jewellery. They are objects in relation to the body—at times following its contours, at others disrupting, restricting, or extending its movement. They examine pressure, weight, contact, distance, and the tension between material and skin. Metal operates here as a precise, disciplined medium, enabling the articulation of subtle distinctions between control and vulnerability, between construction and organic form.
The assignment was led by Tadeáš Podracký and Kateřina Jirsová. Students either responded to a specific part of the body or worked with the reduced format of the ring as an elementary unit of scale. The outcome is a body of work that redefines the object in the context of corporeality—not as an accessory, but as a situation.
The exhibition installation at the Curious Boy Showroom reinforces this principle. Visitors encounter the individual objects through apertures in a specially designed structure clad in flesh-toned textile. The display thus foregrounds the very act of looking as well as the viewer’s own physical presence.
At the same time, the Studio of Concept – Object – Meaning (K.O.V.), UMPRUM, is participating in the first edition of the International Summit of the Jewellery Classes, where more than forty studios from around the world will be presented during a one-day pop-up exhibition at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. UMPRUM will be represented by graduating students Katarina Nábilková, Ema Bártová, Lucie Kramářová, and Jakub Knápek, who will present their work in the form of a performative intervention.
The Studio of Concept – Object – Meaning (K.O.V.) has long participated in Munich Jewellery Week. The Un/Bound Body project reaffirms its ongoing commitment to critically reassessing the relationship between craft, material, and the body as a living, mutable structure.

Die Ausstellung Un/Bound Body präsentiert die aktuellen Arbeiten des Ateliers K.O.V. der Akademie für Kunst, Architektur und Design Prag (UMPRUM) auf dem Festival SCHMUCK in München. Das Projekt stützt sich nicht auf das traditionelle Konzept von Schmuck als Zierde, sondern auf die Notwendigkeit, die Beziehung zwischen Körper und Objekt neu zu überdenken.
Der Körper ist hier weder ein Dekorationsträger noch eine passive, zu ergänzende Form. Er ist Maßstab, Struktur, Instrument und Einschränkung zugleich. Die Studenten arbeiteten mit einer Normvorstellung im Sinne eines System von Proportionen, Regeln und Erwartungen, welche ausschlaggebend sind, wie sich der Körper bewegt und wie er wahrgenommen wird. Die Norm wurde nicht als Hindernis, sondern als Ausgangspunkt für ihre Neubewertung verstanden.
Die hieraus entstandenen Arbeiten sind nicht in erster Linie Schmuckstücke. Sie sind Objekte mit einem Bezug zum Körper - mitunter kopieren sie ihn, ein andermal beeinträchtigen, beschränken oder erweitern sie seine Bewegung. Sie untersuchen den Druck, das Gewicht, den Kontakt, den Abstand und die Spannung zwischen dem Material und der Haut. Metall fungiert hier als präzises, diszipliniertes Medium, welches ermöglicht, die subtilen Unterschiede zwischen Kontrolle und Verletzlichkeit, zwischen Konstruktion und organischer Form zu artikulieren.
Der Aufgabe stand unter der Leitung von Tadeáš Podracký und Kateřina Jirsová. Die Studenten reagierten entweder auf einen konkreten Teil des Körpers oder arbeiteten mit einem verkleinerten Ringformat als elementare Einheit des Maßstabs. Das Ergebnis ist ein Ensemble von Arbeiten, welche das Objekt im Kontext der Körperlichkeit neu definieren - nicht als Accessoire, sondern als Situation.
Die Installation der Ausstellung im Curious Boy Showroom unterstreicht dieses Prinzip. Die Besucher betrachten die einzelnen Objekte durch Bullaugen in einer speziell entworfenen, mit körperfarbenem Stoff bespannten Konstruktion. Die Ausstellung thematisiert somit den Akt des Sehens und die physische Präsenz des Betrachters.
Gleichzeitig nimmt das Atelier K.O.V. am 1. Internationalen Gipfeltreffen der Schmuckklassen (1st International Summit of the Jewellery Classes) teil, bei dem sich mehr als 40 Ateliers aus aller Welt im Rahmen einer eintägigen Pop-up-Ausstellung in der Münchner Pinakothek der Moderne präsentieren. Die Akademie für Kunst, Architektur und Design Prag (UMPRUM) wird hier durch die Absolventinnen Katarina Nábilková, Ema Bártová, Lucie Kramářová und den Absolventen Jakub Knápek vertreten, die ihre Arbeiten in Form einer performativen Intervention präsentieren.
Das Atelier K.O.V. nimmt seit langem an der Munich Jewellery Week (Münchner Schmuckwoche) teil. Das Projekt Un/Bound Body bestätigt sein Interesse an der zeitgenössischen Neubewertung des Verhältnisses zwischen Handwerk, Material und dem Körper als lebendiger, sich verändernder Struktur.
