THE UMPRUM VISITING ARTIST IN SPRING 2023/24 IS SETAREH SHAHBAZI

The Program of the UMPRUM Visiting Artist Studio in the 2023/2024 Spring Semester:

UMPRUM is proud to announce that the visiting artist for the 2023/2024 spring semester is Setareh Shahbazi

THE UMPRUM VISITING ARTIST IN SPRING 2023/24 IS SETAREH SHAHBAZI

Program title and syllabus:

Eyes, come back!

We come together with different experiences, interests and skills. In this workshop, we embrace each other’s varying perspectives of all sorts through collaborative thinking and working. We develop process based, open-ended projects, by using each others’ eyes, ears, brains, guts, fingers, muscles and feet to literally exchange our physically manifested knowledges. Along the way we will explore examples of artistic collaboration, interdisciplinary ways of working and processes of translation and transformation. Artistic approaches, formats and media are free to chose and will manifest within the process. The collaborative process can lead to individual works or collaborations.

Setareh Shahbazi is a visual artist based in Berlin. In her work, she compiles and transforms micronarratives through observations, collaborations, visual notes and found photographs. With a playful irreverence to the sanctity of a photograph as a mirror of reality, she drains details out of images found in private collections and public archives. As artistic co-director of KHF Berlin (Künstlerhof Frohnau) and in collaboration with a network of artists and cultural activists, she conceives short residencies and workshops taking place in the forest on the historical border of Berlin.

The structure of the program:

The visiting artist will give a theoretical and practical course.

The program is structured in several intense in-person sessions with the visiting artist and several online meetings with her and her guests. Regular meetings of the group will be held in person weekly throughout the term.
