Animation and Film

BLOOD – SWEAT – TEARS – LOVE – ANIMATION

Exploration, experimentation, animation, audiovisual work, short film, artistic solution, seeking and finding, joy!

The Animation and Film Studio offers a space to engage with traditional techniques alongside contemporary forms and technologies. Students are guided not only in creating auteur films but also in understanding animation as a medium with diverse applications — such as music videos, trailers, motion design, games, interactive outputs, and installations. UMPRUM’s interdisciplinary environment supports collaboration across fine and applied arts, encouraging experimentation in both content and form.

Throughout the program, students explore the ergonomics of movement and a broad range of traditional and digital animation techniques, with a strong emphasis on understanding how a work evolves over time — focusing on both narrative and non-narrative dramaturgy.

Students are encouraged to experiment with both formal and conceptual approaches, while being expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in both process and output. The program fosters a deep sense of responsibility toward the creative process itself, as well as the ability to present one’s work convincingly and with confidence.

The Animation and Film Studio offers a four-year Bachelor’s degree program and a subsequent two-year Master’s degree program. Artistic research can also be pursued within the studio as part of Doctoral studies. The main program is taught in Czech; for English-speaking students, the Visual Arts program offers a two-year course conducted entirely in English. We accept students for internships through the Erasmus+ program.

Requirements for Applicants

If you are interested in an internship, we emphasize a strong sense of storytelling and the ability to express ideas through an appropriate visual form. A basic understanding of the animation field and a positive attitude toward working with computers and film technologies are required. We prefer students who already have some experience in animation.

In the entrance examination for the Master’s program, we expect the ability to create a complex audiovisual work.  Critical thinking, a distinctive artistic style, and a solid understanding of the field are essential qualifications.
