Research in the area of digitization the sewing of glass components on textiles

Status: completed

Project duration: 2020 - 2023

Funded by: Technology Agency of the Czech Republic

Main researcher: MgA. Jitka Škopová

Project summary:

The research was focused on connecting and rejuvenating the technological processes of the textile and glass industries, while innovating glass components and innovating and digitizing the application of beads for contemporary design. These structures aim to bring system solutions for acoustic comfort in the interior while meeting acoustic and technical standards. The development processes will be aimed at expanding the application of the textile and glass industries. The project aims to preserve and present the cultural heritage of the traditional Czech industry of bead production, textiles and art.

Who was our partner?

The project was research together with the company Preciosa a.s., s Czech crystal glass manufacturer.

What was the main aim of the project?

The functional sample of the expected output/result of the project will be a textile design acoustic structure, which will be intended for the interior of contemporary architecture. The benefit will be the connection of the disciplines of glass bead production, special design of textile designs taking into account the incorporation of beads, design, architecture and acoustics. This combination of disciplines will bring uniqueness to the design, which will be special and difficult to copy in a competitive environment.

What were the results of this project?

In 2023, the team of researchers worked together with textiles with digitally sewn beads as a spatial integration element of the interior, using their emotional, haptic and acoustic effect. The collection of patterns, design structures and functional patterns was called Silentium (silence) and divided into three parts: Arena (sand), Lapis (stone) and Mons (mountain), which demonstrate a different principle of connecting beads and textiles. These names also include measuring the sound absorption coefficient in a reverberant room, simulating acoustic textiles with beads in specified configurations, visualization, exhibition and film.
